For those of you outside of Ireland, Soupy Norman is fantastic, and there’s lots of it available on YouTube. It’s a Polish soap, Pierwsza miłość, dubbed by Irish comedians. When Dave put up his entry I didn’t realise that the series wasn’t Irish (the accents just throw a switch in my head, apparently) and that as such there would be so much awesomeness available since the budget for making it is so low.

I’ve been writing a small bit of PHP lately, and asking questions like ‘what’s PHP for Lisp #’memq? and #’intern?’ on IRC. And then this link comes up on lesinge.org, and it re-inforces a point that’s become very clear to me over the last few years; the programming language doesn’t matter that much. What you write is much, much more important. You can write Lispy PHP (like that link) or Java-oriented PHP, and if it works, the style doesn’t matter. (I was working on some of the latter, and getting around the object orientation took up most of my time; information hiding FTW pain-in-the-аrse).

Je me suis inscrit sous finya.de il y a une semaine, y vendredi une allemande m’a envoyé un message et nous nous sommes amusés une heure en chattant. J’ai suggéré un café dimanche; elle a répondu « oui, à une heure », on s’est dit ‚bis Sonntag.‘ J’étais ponctuel à la Sparkasse près de la gare U-Bahn Eberswalder Straße, écoutant Maria Rita sur mon nouveau portable. Elle avait mon numéro, mais j’ai pas eu le sien. J’attendais là vingt-cinq minutes, sans femme ni appel téléphonique, puis je m’en suis allé.

Quand quelque chose du genre se passe, je essaye toujours de ne pas considérer l’autre comme idiote ou « flake », car un tel dégout ne sert à rien. J’essaye de examiner ce que j’ai fait, et de noter ce qu’il faut mieux faire la prochaine fois. Ce qui est déprimant de cet épisode est la leçon que j’en tiens; fais les choses comme l’on conseille sur sosuave.com, parce que, merde, la personne que je suis ne suffit pas. Je suis charmant, drôle, curieux, intelligent, mon boulot c’est pas dans un Dönerladen, je suis plus ou moins assuré, mais ça ne suffit pas. Merde, encore une fois.
